Affiliate Marketing: How to Use Facebook’s “View Ads” Feature To Spy On Your Competitors

4.1/5 (41)

You should know by now that “competition research” is an essential part of a business.

The easiest way to do that in affiliate marketing is through automated spy tools like…

The problem is that they cost money.

What if I told you that Facebook just came out with a new “spy tool” that’s 100% free?

It’s true…it’s damn true.

I’m going to tell you why they came out with this tool, and how you can start using it today.

The Facebook View Ads Feature

Facebook is rolling out a feature that lets you look at ALL the ads that a page is running. So if you’ve found a solid competitor’s Facebook page, you can easily see the Facebook ads that they’re running.

Why are they doing such a crazy thing?

Because of the Russians. This is like James Bond stuff.

After the 2016 U.S. presidential election, it came out that the Russians had run a bunch of Facebook ads for Donald Trump. People got all worked up that Russians were rigging elections and accused Facebook of making it possible.

For example, here’s one that Russians targeted at people who live in New York:

Now Facebook is trying to make it easier for people to figure out where ads are coming from.

People are starting to care about their online privacy, and they’re starting to realize the damage that this information can do.

As a result of all this bad press, they want to make it easy for people to know who is running ads so they don’t get duped in the future.

This is their way of making the platform more transparent for the user since privacy is such a hot topic.

It started with political ads in Canada because they were having an election in 2017.

I can hear you saying, “This is great and all Charles, but I could care less about political ads. I’m an affiliate marketer, not a politician.”

Here’s where it gets good.

Right NOW, you can see all the ads a competitor is running.

And it gets better.

It also seems like they might let you see how much a company spent on an ad, the total amount spent, the target audience, and how many impressions it got.

It’s still in the early phases for now.

This is HUGE for us affiliate marketers. Basically, it means you can see what offers your competitors are running, what their ads look like, and possibly how much they’re spending and which ads are working best.

And this will all be FREE.

Alright, so how do you actually do this?

How To See A Page’s Ads

Okay, here’s how it works.

I’m going to show you how to see the ads for any page.

Right now they aren’t showing any ad spend numbers, but hopefully, that will be added in soon. But even now, this is a powerful tool that not many people know about.

To see which ads are running:

Step #1: Go To A Facebook Page and Click “Info and Ads”

#2 – Choose The Country

You can see which ads are running in which countries, which is especially helpful if you’re targeting different offers by location.

#3 – Analyze The Ads

Once you choose a country, you can see ALL the ads they’re currently running.

This gives you a really good feel for their copywriting, angles, etc. Also, you can take what your competitors are doing and improve on it, better different images, headlines, and calls-to-action.

That’s it. It’s that simple.

Using This Tool Effectively

This tool is still in the early stages right now. It doesn’t have a lot of features or options yet, but I’m sure that’s going to change in the future.

There’s one limit to this tool – you need to know who are your competitors are in the first place.

If you already do who you want to spy on, then you can easily load all the sites up once a week to stay on top of what they’re doing.

Protip: You can use a macro program like Keyboard Maestro to open up a new browser with all the tabs. Or you can just bookmark the pages and go one at a time.

I think the best combination is using something like Adsector to find these pages, and then using the Facebook tool to see the ads.
