Books, Gear and Reviews: Review: The Productivity Blueprint – Can This Course Double Your Productivity?
My friends at AsianEfficiency have released their biggest project yet called the Productivity Blueprint. It’s a comprehensive video course on productivity that will take even the laziest guy out there and make them Asian Efficient.
I am good friends with the guys behind AsianEfficiency, and the links I am using are affiliate links where I received a commission. However, I will do my best to review the product on its own merits and without any bias.
What is productivity?
My definition is to use your time and energy in the more efficient way possible to complete your goals. How do I have time to run campaigns, consistently write on this blog, manage 4 employees, exercise / read daily, and travel? Productivity.
While I have a reputation for being productive, I never even heard of the concept until 2010. Everything until then was accomplished through brute force and coffee. Even though I was making good money and getting shit done, I was constantly burned out and tired all the time.
I met Thanh and Aaron, the guys behind AsianEfficiency.com around 2010 before their blog started.
I was at an event where Aaron did an hour presentation on Productivity that blew my mind away. This was the first time I’d ever heard about pomodoros, routines, Omnifocus, or that there was a better way to handle e-mail.
My productivity system before was just writing a few to do’s on a post it note. I put some of his techniques to work and immediately got results.
I’ve been reading their blog for a few years now and I would credit them with 50% about my productivity knowledge. You can see some of my own articles on productivity here.
They’ve been writing on their blog now for around 3 years and have released various eBooks. This time they wanted to do something different and the result is a video course which includes videos, screencasts, and MP3 files if you prefer to listen.
These videos were not recorded in Aaron’s apartment with an iPhone. These guys rented out a baller professional studio in Los Angeles and spent a month recording these products. The video and audio quality are superb. You can visit their sales page to see a sample of the video.
The guys speak in a clear and conversational style and it’s easy to understand the material.
What You Get:
- 60+ Videos each ranging from 2 to 10 minutes that cover theory.
- Each video includes a screencast which shows you how to put the theory into action. Here’s one example. They had a video covering email theory, and then there’s a screencast where they show you how they email. I don’t know about you guys but that’s the best way for me to learn. Explain and then show me with an example.
- Worksheets and action plans
- All the material is also available through MP3’s if you prefer a more podcast style way of learning.
- There are a lot of bonuses too including personal coaching and email availability. See their sales page for more info.
There are 4 Major Modules
Beating Procrastination: You procrastinate. I procrastinate. These guys who you the best techniques to beat it. Procrastination = unnecessary stress. If the solution was as simple as “just do it” then most of us wouldn’t have this issue now would be? They go deep into the roots of the problem.
Improving Focus & Self-Discipline: Have problem focusing? Everyone does specially in a time with social media and cellphones who make money from you not being focused. These techniques will have you laser-focused for 50 minutes at a time.
Reducing Distractions & Interruptions: Did you know if you’re interrupted from your task, it takes 15 minutes before you can focus again? These guys show you how to stop the interruptions once and for all.
Email Productivity: My e-mail’s been out of control since I have newbies emailing me multiple times a day. Some of these techniques blew my mind to handle this beast.
The 4 modules are pretty good and comprehensive. If I had to choose a 5th then habits and routines would’ve been good. But they do have quite a few articles on their blog covering that subject.
The way the modules are setup is you can just focus on the section you need the most help with. I have a good handle on 3 of the 4 modules, but my email game is weak. Therefore I’m spending the most time going through the e-mail module.
There’s a special section for people who buy the premium version called interrogations. In this section they do various interviews with productivity experts and Some of these experts include James Clear, Mike Vardy, Nickycakes, and Me!
I was in Bangkok September 2013 and met up with Aaron to do this interview. It was about an hour of him grilling me on my ninja productivity techniques, most of which I haven’t’ revealed on this blog or anywhere else.
The interview /w me is only available through their product.
Is it Worth It?
First off, this product is not meant for everyone due to the price. The guys invested a significant amount of time and money to develop this product, and the premium price is a reflection of it.
There are two payment options: either 2 payments of $597, or 1 payment of $997. If you’re in debt or not making much money then it doesn’t make sense to make such a big investment. Until then you should start by reading their blog, and re-consider the product once your money game is proper.
You might be wondering why would someone spend $1,000 on this course when they could buy a productivity book for $10?
One reason is because you’re learning in a different medium. I’m more of a visual learner so it definitely helps me process the information easier. My preference is to watch the videos on the iPad at night.
Second is the information you receive.
These guys have read hundreds of books of productivity and are only presenting technique that are the best of the best.
They have studied the works of David Allen, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Eben Pagan, etc. and have taken only what works.
A lot of these productivity classics were written in the 80’s or 90’s. They don’t address modern issues such as email and social media distractions. These techniques are for 2014. I’ve also come across quite a few techniques I’ve never seen before that I’m pretty sure they’ve invented. Some techniques that haven’t made it onto the blog yet.
Honestly if you implemented everything from the Blueprint, you would be in the top 1% of the world when it comes to being productive.
The product is designed for the person who believes in investing in knowledge.
$1,000 is nothing if you have the means of making more money with that knowledge. The result of this could be more money, more energy, and more time.
This is the product I wish existed 4 years ago because I’ve spent countless hours reading books and experimenting, when I could’ve just watched this course.
These guys believe in their product so much, you get a 100% money back guarantee within 60 days. Don’t like the product? Just ask for your money back.
