Challenges: 30 Day Challenge #3: Drink More Water
Previous 30 Day Challenges
I’m about to finish the 30 day gratitude challenge from last month.
It was easy to find things to be grateful for the first two weeks such as health, family, etc. But I noticed it became harder to find new things to be grateful for as time went on. After two weeks I had to sit down and think deeper about what I’m grateful for.
That’s when I discovered ideas I didn’t realize before. I work at home and don’t have to waste 2 hours a day in traffic. I saw a homeless guy on the highway and realized I should be grateful for a roof over my head.
You know what’s tough about being in today’s culture?
We always feel as if we don’t have enough. Everyone’s always bragging on Facebook and we have a closer look than ever into the lives of celebrities. I mean my life is fucking awesome but I think “FML” whenever I see Dan Blizerian’s Instagram.
This gratitude challenge help put things into perspective of what I already do have. Your life might “suck” but it could be the dream life from someone else’s perspective.
The primary purpose of this blog is to become a better affiliate marketer. Being the best affiliate you can be means you have to kick ass in all areas of your life.
That’s what these challenges are about. Not only do I want to help you develop positive habits, but I want to show you guys the processes behind how I do it.
July Challenge: Drink More Water
Who’s ready for the next 30 day challenge?
I’m going to go for improving health. The easiest way to start off is for us to drink more water.
Everyone tells you that you need to drink more water. I know as a kid I HATED drinking water. It has no flavor and growing up I only wanted soda and orange juice.
Now that I’m older and more health conscious, I know how important it is to drink water. I’m not here to promote a lifestyle of “bottles” and alcohol. Over here I’m all about protein shakes and water!
The Benefits of Drinking More Water
Here’s why water is important
Energy – You get tired when you’re dehydrated. Ever noticed how you’re groggy as soon as you wake up? It’s because you haven’t had water for the past 8 hours.
Better skin – The more water you drink, the better your skin and facial aesthetics are. I’m almost thirty and have some beautiful skin because I keep myself hydrated. Water means less wrinkles.
Toxins – Flushes out toxins and helps boosts our immune system.
Digestion – Do you even lift? Well if you do then water will help with digesting and nutrients absorption.
If you’re fat then drinking water can help you lose weight.
5 cans of coke a day = 140 calories
5 cans a day * 30 days * 140 calories = 21,000 calories
21,000 calories / 3,500 calories per pound = 6 POUNDS!
How Much Water Do You Need to Drink?
Every source I’ve read gives a different answer.
It depends on factors such as your gender, your weight, how often you workout, what the climate is like in your region, etc.
Here’s a basic guideline to start off with.
– Men should drink about 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total fluids a day
– Women should drink about 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total fluids a day
There are two ways to know if you’re getting into water each day.
a) You shouldn’t feel thirsty. Being thirsty means you’re already hydrated.
b) Second is your urine should be clear. The darker shade it is the more dehydrated you are. If it’s not clear then you need to drink more water.
How to Drink More Water
Improving the Taste
Not everyone enjoys the tastelessness of water, especially compared to a soda or juice.
One trick I use is to put fruit + herbs into the water. It adds tons of flavor into the water without adding calories. I let it sit for around an hour before I start drinking.
Which fruits do I use? I usually do slices of orange + mint or slices of orange + blueberries. The key is to keep it simple.
One trick I use to drink more water is to think of soda / alcohol as poison. If life was an RPG then water would be like health potions.
Easily Measure with a Container
Lets not keep track of each glass of water we drink since that’s the hard way. Simplify.
First thing you should do is grab a pitcher that can measure how much water you’re drinking a day. My goal is to finish the pitcher by the end of the day.
I pull the pitcher up with water and ice in the morning, and I leave it on my desk so I can easily visualize. I just pour and drink from the glass.
If I’m heading outside to do some errands or if I’m heading to the gym, I’ll fill up my water bottle.
Don’t be one of those assholes that uses new plastic water bottles everyday. Buy a few water bottles and fill it up at home. I like stainless steel bottles and prefer Klean Kanteens.
One tip I can give is to keep your pitchers / bottles clean. Even though it’s water, the bottles can develop mold if you don’t wash it enough.
Bottles can be a pain in the ass to clean so here’s a protip.
There are certain times of the day I make sure to drink water.
- As soon as I wake up I drink 16oz of water. You haven’t drank water the past 7 hours so you’re dehydrated and you’re brain’s a little foggy. Drink as soon as you wake up!
- I’ll drink 8oz water before I go to dleep
- I bring a bottle of water 16oz and drink while at the gym. I like to mix it with BCAA’s
- I have 8oz water with each meal.
Better health leads to more success.
Every time I drink water I’m making a decision to improve my health and to improve my body. Is a cup of water going to change your life? Nope.
But developing this habit will help you out over your lifetime by giving you more energy and making you healthier.
